Fashion Sweatshirt

Sometimes I can’t take fashun seriously.   When I realized that “I’m just gonna chill at home” clothing had become street style/fashion week fashionable, I could do nothing more than roll my eyes and wonder how many designers had taken well advantage of the situation by charging upwards of $100 for something that probably cost $2.34 to make.

(the answer is several)

I dig the lazy, comfortable look as much as the next mom/tomboy (momboy?  Can we make that a thing?  Let’s make that a thing), but COME THE FUCK ON.

I balked when I saw this one for $70, but that pales in comparison to the Saint Laurent Paris offering.  Can we talk about this $675 SLP sweatshirt for a second? Because I have questions…

Did Hanes go out of business?  Are fashion people unaware that this exists for $15 in nearly every Target everywhere?  They probably aren’t trimmed in grosgrain ribbon, but that looks weird anyway.  Is it the V patch in the front?  We’re paying Louboutin prices for V patches on plain cotton fleece sweatshirts?  You can find that at screen printing & embroidery shops.  See?  NOT $675.  Not even $100.

Knowledge is power.

Cosign this! Same thing with leggings, they sell damn leggings at Target and Walmart for less than $10 why would you ever pay more?! Especially plain black ones. Quality is not always the case. I was able to get several Alexander Wang T’s at a very good price (think $20ish) instead of the retail 80something – a year later, they’ve all turned into rectangles that are way too short and too wide. I can’t fathom how I’d feel about it if I’d paid full retail price.

totally agree. I’m currently sitting here in a hanes sweatshirt completely balking at those prices. *eye roll*

So glad you brought this up. We all know that trends start on the street and move up the line (before moving down again), and this one is just… laughable. I kind of find it endearing that there are people who apparently have never seen a sweatshirt before and think that Alexander Wang invented them.

Remember when we thought James Perse was exorbitant… ahh, the good old days.

This is dumb. Not that it was created in the first place (I love an ironic $600 sweatshirt as much as the next guy) but that it actually made it to retail which assumes, on some level, that someone would actually buy it. And I’m sorry, you can’t buy a $600 sweatshirt and wear it ironically. That just makes you a legitimate douchebag.

    Heh, momboy.

I would pay more for a regular old ‘lounge around the house with the dog’ sweatshirt if it came from a sustainable supply chain with workers making a living wage. But! This is nonsense. And I wouldn’t pretend it was ‘dress up’ clothes regardless of how humane the manufacture. Great blog; I bookmarked you.
