Like the “hair stories”! (her story…hair story…’see what i did there?’)
Its my personal opinion that natural hair is beautiful hair! I hate the message being sent to young women (and children) about what “beautiful” really is. The expense of it all, the pain, the damage, health issues, etc.
Of course, I personally don’t go through the same struggles, but I am one to wish I could do something about it! I’m afraid I don’t know what, but hopefully the thought counts somewhere?

It does. If you ever happen upon a little girl, tell her she’s smart and beautiful just the way she is. Nice words from strangers can carry a tremendous amount of weight.

I prefer Beepers.
Since you mentioned it, I’m having a great hair week. Heading to the foggy city again this morning though. I will have to quickly dash from my car to avoid heinous gravity defying puff hair transformation.

It would be. DO ITTTTTT! =D
I just want to say… I read a lot of stories about the negative experiences girls/women have with their hair. I young girl reading this could be frightened. So let me tell of my experiences.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. When I was in high school (population: about 1/3 black, 1/4 Latino, 1/4 Asian, the rest white) I one day realized I was anxious about an upcoming school trip to a water park, because of the (bad)things it would do to my straightened hair. Then it hit me: why is my hair straightened at all??? I got all the perm cut out. I don’t remember anyone saying anything, except for my Mom: “You look so mature! Now, remember, with a short haircut, you have to get it shaped up on the regular”; my dad: “Drop earrings will look good with that.”; and my English teacher: “you look elegant.”
I did get a lot of (non-black) people curious to touch it; I gladly let them. When I visited the Caucasus Mtns, someone said, with a soft gasp, “It’s like a little lamb!”
After seeing “Hair”, I got the idea to have dreadlocks. I got the instructions from “Sassy” magazine! My grandmothers were afraid I might not be able to get a job. But it’s never been a problem.
I went to college in Rhode Island; now I live in NY. And every week I get at least one compliment on my hair. Guys often use it as an excuse to come on to me. “Um… can I touch it?” It’s been short, long, and everything in between.
Recently my husband, nestling against me, said, “Can we make a blanket out of your hair?”
I haven’t had a perm, or even owned a comb, in about 14 years. I’ve probably saved thousands of dollars. And I’ve never worried about how I’m gonna look in the morning.

Thank you for sharing, sis!
And maaaaaaaaaaan, the money I have SAVED. I haven’t had my hair shorn for long, but I’ve saved quite a bundle.
DOPE that you got the instructions from Sassy. I mean!!!
