A while back, I tried (unsuccessfully) to set up a clothes bartering operation for some of my friends and people who visit the blog. While the larger attempt failed, my blogger buddy Quean and I decided that we would go forward with the idea since we both had a lot of unwanted stuff that we didn’t want to hand over to Goodwill. An arrangement was made: I send a box, she sends a box, we keep what’s wanted, and give away or sell what isn’t.
So far, it’s worked out great (for me anyway - LOL). Among other things, I got a few dresses that I probably would never have bought on my own and (surprisingly) I really like them. The one above is a prime example. Who would have thought that I, lover of jeans and all things black and drapey, would don a navy blue trapeze dress with puffed sleeves, pleating and abstract seagulls flying all over it?
The answer is no one. No one would have thought that. Frankly, I’m still shocked.

In a world of recessions, self-imposed shopping bans, and Forever 21 becoming the Skynet of fashion (you heard it here first… *shifty eyed look*), I think the swap and barter method is the way to go. Find someone your size and get into it. =D

Forever 21 + Skynet = at least we’ll have the pleasure of knowing our new robot overlords are dressed in cheap, trendy outfits and that they’ll be doomed to buying a whole new wardrobe every 6 months.

I totally agree, both about F21 being the skynet and that these days, swap/barter/sell/trade/donate to the less fortunate! is the way to go.

F21 is scaring the hell out of me now and I’m not quite sure why…
I love this idea. I’ve heard of parties like this where everyone gets together and swaps clothes, which intimidates me somehow (fear of rejection?) but I want to try this with a few of my friends who are similar sizes to me.

I have that same thing, too. I lucked out because she lives on the opposite coast so I don’t have to face in-person judgement. LOL.
If and when you guys get together, make sure there are food, drinks and a good movie on. I hear it takes the edge off. =D

I love that dress! I got a trapeze dress on Saturday from, wait for it, Forever 21! Aaaahhhhh!!! That place totally overwhelms me, but I had to go because they finally opened a new store just down the road from me. I got a few things, I’m ashamed to report. LOL!

Fun outfit; I like the blue-on-blue jacket paired with the funky print dress. It’s good to try out different looks and break away from your typical aesthetic. In the end though, it’s still very you!
