…printastical…

Seen at Six Six Sick…and thank god because I’m in LOVE. Images from Chichia London.

I won’t call it ethnic. I won’t call it tribal. I won’t call it trendy. I will call it DROP DEAD GORGEOUS because that’s exactly what it is. Do I have to formally say that I would wear everything in the Made in Dar collection? Because I would. All the time. Everyday.
And how striking is this model!?!?! She has me ready to pay all kinds of crazy customs fees to get these to my doorstep. YOU BETTER WORK.

Fuuuuu…I love these prints. I’m still trying to navigate this whole mixing prints thing too. And I agree with you on the model, she got FACE and legs for days.

You do. Splurge with me!
Printastical is correct! Not tribal, or ethnic. Ethnic… sounds nasty. The person who designed this could honestly have an obsession with African traditional design, especially from Zimbabwe or Kenya, to be specific. Got African family from Egypt. I will go check her out. And this is the kind of ads I like to see! Truly beautiful African female models.
Thanks for this one! Now I’m off to investigate the wonder that is the Made in Dar collection. I wonder if the “Dar” stands for Darfur.. probably not.

Girl, you so thorough!
The designer was born in Tanzania and raised in London. The Dar is short for Dar es Salaam. =D

After I did some research, I figured that out, lol. See, I knewww it. East African design is different from the South, or the West. Like Ghana and Nigeria have a specific set of detailing to their clothing

YUP. That is my main problem with the catchall “African print” or “ethnic print” blah blah. They aren’t the same everywhere on the continent. =D
I’d love to know more about this detailing though. School me!

Lol, I can only school you a bit. I think I’ll take some photos of my dresses and skirts from Ghana so I can try to explain the difference.
Ghanians use a type of raised fabric for most of their detailing. It’s obvious in the floral patterns and for special occasion outfits. The headwraps, which I have a lot of, are kente like material. The colors tend to err on the bold side, mostly with bright yellows and golds and deep hues. xD Ewww, I sound so scientific. But that’s how it’s made. And it’s all done by hand, the detailing. I had sat and watched my father’s mom do it and I wanted to die. She’s from the Northeast region of Africa.
Anyway, that’s more South and West African. Also obvious is the tye-dye prints, the random splotches of color. That’s more apparent in the rich.
