Before my admonishment from dudeguy, I wasn’t a fan of long dresses.  I’m glad I finally decided to listen to him.  Short dresses don’t really work so well on my frame and are hell to keep from riding up in the rear.

The dress pictured is another Hoodwill snag (I must have been in dress mode that day because I walked away with four in tow).  It’s an odd length, made of wool, belting it makes it look weird and so does trying to make it look shorter.  I should be discouraged with all of these things, but I love a good puzzle.  Especially one that I just throw a necklace and jacket over.

The shoes are a new addition to my arsenal.

I will preface this story with the disclaimer that I bought them at a place I vowed to never shop with.  There were extenuating circumstances; ok, they were on super-duper sale.

When Deanne from Dream Sequins was in LA, I went to meet her at Space 15 Twenty, home of Urban Outfitters, Free People, and a few other shops.  When I first spied her, she was looking through stacks of shoe boxes.  Next to those boxes was a sign that said 50% off.  About two seconds later, I beelined over to this pair; I remembered pining for them a few months ago but denied myself the purchase because they were in the UO catalogue and priced at $168.

No ma’am.

I picked up the box wondering what they’d been marked down to.  The yellow price sticker read $49.99.  ”Fair enough,” I thought.  Flash forward about 20 minutes filled with looking at many other pairs of shoes and trying on a pair of disco ball creepers.  I went to the register wondering if they would ask for $50 or $25.

“Your total is $16.48.”

“Excuse me?  $60.48?”

“No.  SIXTEEN.48.”

“Oh shit!  Let me give you cash then.”

I know I said I would never go back to UO.  I probably never will again.  But honestly…I can’t pass up a pair of shoes that I’ve wanted when they’ve been marked down to 10% of their original price.  Knowing your limitations is an important part of self-discovery, people!!!

I’m not big on dresses either. But one of my “things to do in 2010″ was to wear more dresses and stop living in jeans and Chucks. Maybe I can wear dresses and Chucks [http://day19.com/text/?p=397] and then move on to something more adult? Eh?

Digging the last photo too. Love all the texture you captured, plus your smile’s great. :D

It looks great on you! I’ve never been one to pull off longer dresses, but you just look all elegant and shizz. Lovelovelove the jacket too, of course, as I’ve mentioned before…and I’m not a big UO fan either, but I seriously doubt I could resist shoes for $16!
