@Alicia I will be honest. When it comes to Beyonce, I do not think that her management has anything to do with her nakedness. After all. She is BEYONCE. Maybe if we were talking about the small fry like Keri Hilson and every other person in that 'wannabe / still on the come up' bracket, I would agree.

In my opinion Beyonce would like us to believe that decisions like that are made by her management and her people in order to choose what she then takes responsibility for. When the public LOVES something that she does (eg single ladies) - guess what? Beyonce is all over how it was HER vision, HER idea blah blah blah (and will not make us forget that she had something to do with the writing of the song - even though we all know who was truly behind that song), and then she will throw a bit of credit to her producer, choreographer and maybe her video director. But most of the credit goes to her. Now when it comes to other videos (even videophone) that people don't receive to well, she is mum about it. Have you heard her speak on the video since it came out? Nope. Because she is waiting to see the reaction. Then she'll decide on whether to talk about the video, or hey, move on to the fact that she is releasing another album in 2010. Now THAT 2010 project she has been vocal about in Europe, including confirming it on MTV UK. But she hasn't said sh*t about the videophone video. Power play at its best. You should read the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. It has Beyonce's name written all over it. You'll see how she operates. I doubt that she has read the book, I just think that she is very industry clever. She surrounds herself with the greatest - because she is said to be nice and has an unassuming character - people easily divulge information to her, then she swagger jacks them, and keeps it moving. Power.

Even when you look at who she surrounds herself with (her family - her PA (her cousin), her tour manager (her cousin), her stylist (her mother) etc), and what roles they play. She is always the damsel in distress. Her father is her shield and is 'the bastard' of the family. Why? Because he carries out all her bitchy decisions and makes it seem like they were his ideas. So the world will easily hate him and feel sorry for Beyonce. If her father was THAT bad he would have been fired ages ago - Michael and Janet Jackson did it (because their father to them was a genuine ass and not good for business). So she surrounds herself with people who will easily take the blame - and don't mind doing it because they go laughing all the way to the bank...

You are right about missing people like 'old' Kelis and Missy. I miss Missy's videos - from 'get your freak on' to 'she's a ...'... That also makes me miss the old Hype Williams who was all about creativity and not nakedness. Maybe its also the shortage of artists who are willing to take the risk and be about creativity instead of easy and fast money through gyrating and all sorts.

But I do believe that this nakedness is opening up a gap for new and true talent to come out because the demand is there, we just need people brave enough to supply.

@mango (and whomever else was wondering) - I think the population as a whole is partially to blame for creating this monster. The other part comes from her management. It's my understanding that label execs tell artists what they need to do to be appealing to the population based on how that population spends their money.

The pervasiveness f the internets (and other media, I'm sure) has us used to getting information quickly. Very, very quickly. Because of this, we get bored of things just as quickly. I'm not surprised that artists feel the need to keep pushing the envelope to keep reinventing themselves to stay interesting to the public. Why that envelope has to be the "assy-outie" envelope is a mystery to me. Hopefully we, as consumers, will get bored of this trend and focus more on people being actual artists and creatives.

I miss Missy Elliot. She was a creative. Old Kelis was a creative, too. Somehow, both of them managed to keep it fresh and interesting without resorting to having their asses out on stage and that's how I like it.

@sui - I know there has to be another way to feel empowered. Dominatricies are not the only ones, I'm sure.

@ Everyone else - I sincerely thank you for your comments and thoughts on this. I have THE BEST readers in the universe. Word.
