Half Nelson//Shop the Sale

Did any of you see Half Nelson?  If not, you should.  Great movie.  Cutie pie Ryan Gosling plays a drug addicted teacher whose saving grace is his friendship with one of his students.  Very cool.

Somehow, this outfit reminds me of that movie.  It could be the wrinkled shirt and overall disheveled look that this necktie & chain bit is giving off, but who knows?

it looks all Top Model-ish, huh? SMILE WITH YOUR EYES!

AE button up, AA tank, altered F21 jeans, Max Studio wedges, self-designed necklace

Ok, so technically I didn’t “design” this since it is a knockoff of an allusion to a Marquis and Camus necklace ($695 MODERN REBEL MY ASS).  I’m proud of it either way.  WHAM!!

Lists

My "thinkin' face"

My last few days:

  • cut hair (again…) into modified mohawk
  • made earrings to put in Talonalia shop
  • went to a club (GASP!!!!)
  • lost one of the Talonalia earrings while walking back to the car from the club (UGH…)
  • Goodwill hunting
  • decided that Marquis and Camus, although lovely, is WAY TO _____ OVERPRICED and is practically begging for me to make my own versions…
  • exploded in sweat in my car (which had to get two “new” back tires due to a HELLA FAULTY alignment…yes, I was PISSED)
  • felt two mini-earthquakes
  • ate the best turkey sandiwch ever (YAAAAAAAASSS to spicy dijon mustard)
  • put new necklace in Talonalia (seen above)
  • decided that half a scoop of chai powder is PHENOMENAL in warmed rice with butter, sugar, and milk

Newly acquired:

  • Babooshka boyfriend cardigan
  • Armani Collezioni blazer (the result of Goodwill hunting…)
  • LOTS o’ vintage jewelry
  • little red shorts from American Apparel (I blame Pamela)
  • ticket for cruise to Ensenada

I feel oddly productive…

A HUGE thanks to Nicole and Clutch and “HAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!” to everyone who came over from there.  I’m hosting a giveaway right now, so feel free to enter.  =D

And please don’t judge me for the programs I have open while I’m at work…I’m multitasking, damnit!

Pants of Insanity//Stuff to Do

Talonalia Necklace
Shirt – F21
Pants – Ralph Lauren Collection
Shoes – Report

I am proud of these pants.

Why, Alicia?  Why would you be proud of pants?

“Why,” you ask?  I’ll tell you why.

These were spotted on an at-the-last-second glance while leaving a flea market last weekend.  I was drawn to this bananaballs print (of course) and was shocked when I saw that (a) the tags were still on it and (b) they were my size.  I looked over at dudeguy, who put me on a ‘no crazy prints’ ban for a month to see if I could manage, and he overwhelmingly nodded in favor.  Actually, he looked dead in my face and said, “you HAVE to buy those.”  Can’t argue with that.

$3 later, they became mine and were dubbed “the pants of insanity,” or poi (yes, the french pronounciation).  So yes, I am proud of these pants.  Anything this damn good, that looks this nuts, that costs that much deserves accolade.  WIN for me.

All that aside, I knew exactly how I wanted to wear these.  Simple and loose on top (thank you silk/jersey blended oversized drapey grey shirt of awesomeness) and a blazer to keep it nice and “together” looking…in spite of the clear heels on these shoes.  LOL.

“She Wants To Move”

Today, I built an outfit around the latest addition to the esty store, Atlantis:

all layered up

she likes to move...

sometimes...you can see it...

F21 shirt over vintage dress over Emporio Armani skirt, Alice + Olivia for Payless shoes, self-designed necklace

This vintage turquoise dress that I won on Market Publique (it’s like ebay for vintage only.  GO THERE!) a few weeks ago sat languishing in my closet until I realized that it (the bottom, at least) would go perfectly with the hints of turquoise in the necklace.  WIN.

BUT, it’s a little short…TOO short for work.  My saving grace  was this shiny silver bodycon pencil skirt with a pleated hem that I scored at a sample sale.  EPIC WIN.  I can’t remember how much it was, but my abriged memory tells me it was in single digit territory.  You know how I do.  LOL.

The way the pleats on this skirt swish back and forth while I’m walking reminds me of my favorite N.E.R.D. video.  Ol’ girl was shaking something furious in that fringe dress.  Trust, whenever I hear this song while I’m out (or in the house, hell…), I do the same thing.  Sure, muscles are pulled and multiple cramps ensue, but something about that song makes me forget it all.

I need to go to a party or something.

N.E.R.D. She Wants To Move

A HUGE thank you to Lucrecia of Fashion is Poison for featuring my new collection and store on her blog.  I’m stoked.  SERIOUSLY stoked.

It’s a small operation now, but Talonalia will be growing with more things added soon enough.  You can check it out now via the link at the left.

Love you, Lu!!!!

“And you’re a prima ballerina on a spring afternoon; change on into the wolfman howlin’ at the moon”

Personality Crisis…sometimes I don’t know who I am when I wake up…

Just kidding.  I only dress that way.  LOL.

epic band shirt...OH YEAH

vintage New York Dolls t-shirt, YSL vest, George Cox boots

My daily bracelet pile is growing.  It now includes one make of skull beads carved out of bone and another of random, colorful beads.  On top of the silver joints I always wear.  Something about a huge stack of non-sequiter bracelets in summer just glazes my doughnut.

(Be)Cause I Love You (Pt.2) – UPDATED!!

Lovies, lovies, LOVIES!!!

Because I think you all are the greatest people on the internets, I am hosting another giveaway.  w00t!

This time around, it’s for something that I consider to be absolutely indespensible: a pair of really good jeans.  Feast your eyes upon the Skinny Slouch jeans in “Loved” by Current/Elliot:

Current Elliot

I know; they’re awesome.  My favorite silhouette* in a good-for-day-or-night wash with the right amount of slouch.  Very downtown chic with a SoCal vibe, right?

Anyway, here are the deets.  You have to do two, count ‘em two, things:

  1. leave a comment here describing a downtown chic look using these here jeans as a starting point.  Be creative!  I’m a very visual person, and vivid descriptions are everything.  =P
  2. follow Amy, founder of chickdowntown.com on Twitter.  If you aren’t a tweeter, feel free to fan her on facebook.  It’ll count either way.

Once you’ve done those two things, consider yourself entered!  The contest is going to run through July 21, 2009 at 5pm PST.  I’ll announce a winner after that.  Lastly (unfortunately?), the contest is only open to US residents (but you KNOW I love you guys overseas like play cousins).  UPDATE:  International readers are able to enter!  Get on it!

Ready?  Cool!  While you’re formulating outfit possibilities in your head, check out more Current Elliot jeans.  Still thirsting for denim-y goodness?  Check out Black Orchid jeans.  I only wish I had a display in front of me so I could feel/try on/rave over as many pairs in a size 28 as possible…but this is about you guys…not me…suckas.  LOL.  I keed.

Got something in mind, yet?  If you do, go comment!  Good luck!

*sure, I’m “too bottom heavy” per regular people’s standards, but damn them…

Talonalia (Pt.2)

I just made these babies mine.

The lovely Dana of MODAna is having an IN-SANE liquidation of personal goods.  I suggest you go to her blog and lay your claims accordingly.  You should also check back often, because what you see now is only the first wave of what promises to be a lot of good stuff.

Thanks, Dana!!!  I can’t wait to get these.  CAN.NOT.WAIT.

Meditation

F21 shirt, gifted skirt, vintage Bruno Valenti shoes, self-designed necklace

My mom forced upon gave me this maxi skirt a couple of months ago and I welcomed it with open arms (can’t say no to a crazy print).  It stayed untouched in my closet because I just couldn’t figure out what to do with it.  It was too long for what I like normally and just short enough to not look quite right with any of my shoes….sucks.

After making this necklace the night before (and being dead set on wearing it the next day), I was determined to make it work.  DETERMINED.  Unsurprisingly, the aforementioned problem hadn’t resolved itself.  RUDE.  I decided to go the ‘quick and dirty fix’ route, hiked it up and safety pinned the hem to the waist.  It looked a mangled hot mess in person.  I’m planning  on making it into a proper tulip skirt some time this week.

I am loving this new necklace, by the way.  I think it’s my favorite so far.  The Bodhisattva, so-named for the dangling Kuan Yin carved in bone at the center, is made with ceramic, wood, and malachite beads attached to an antique gold tone hexagonal chain.  Very cool.  It goes very well with the new tatty of a red lotus on my right wrist.  Call it the universe working/divine intervention/coincidence (whatever you believe in, yo), but it seems as if the red lotus is a symbol of Avalokiteshvara who…when manifest in female form…is Kuan Yin.

Eh?  Eh?

I’m sorry, but ish like that blows my mind when it happens.  =D

You’ll have to excuse me now.  My wrist is itching like CRAZY.
