Inspiration

This image is not new to these gleaming eyes of mine, but given my recent feather fixation, I though I’d post it up for you all.

It’s giving me ideas…

More Celebration

One of my NY luvahs, Danielle (aka The Style and Beauty Doctor), did a feature on me and the store.

I’m super geeked, because we actually got to hang out when I went to NY and meeting cool people that were just ‘friends in the head’ that I ‘met’ through blogging.

Thanks a million, girlie! And if you guys ever need makeup advice or a ton of info on beauty and styling, hit up her blog!  If you’re anything like me in the morning (sleeping late and rushing), this article will come in handy.

Side note: the ostrich necklace is now up!

I Caved…

We had a pretty shitty morning in the department today.  Lately, I’ve been doing well with keeping my impulse buys to a $45 or less limit with a low degree of frequency.  This week totally shat all over my progress with the shopping yesterday in combination with this:

Aldo Parrin

This shoe is currently on my desk

In my defense, a new Aldo opened up near my work and I was sent a 20% off coupon to celebrate.  I celebrated.  Those of you in the L.A. area, get a piece:

It’s an in-store coupon only and expires on June 20th.  =D

I probably could have just waited until lunch was over and read about how Miss California was FINALLY dethroned or how walking with a transvestite in Russia can get you arrested, but I wouldn’t have the closest thing to a summer sandal that I’ll be wearing for the next several months.  I call it a win-win.

*praying the rent check gets cashed tomorrow*

=D

Plumage

I’ve noticed a black, white, and grey theme on here as of late, so I thought I’d switch it up today.  I also decided to wear the ostrich feather necklace because my hair was doing that cockatoo thing it likes to do:

vintage jacket, self-deisgned necklace, F21 shirt, Bakers shoes

This is the jacket I mentioned in this post.  I almost didn’t buy it, but dudeguy egged me on.  Most of my overspending during thrifting adventures is completely his fault.  That’s my story and I stand by it.

Now when vintage shopping, any and all spending is completely my own fault.  Today, I found myself aimlessly browsing in the much-mentioned-on-L.A.-blogger’s-blogs American Vintage.  It seems that I have a magnetic draw to rompers because I found an incredibly cute (and dare I say, chic?) one that happened to fit and had pockets(!!!!!).  That trifecta usually means the romper comes home with me. But, BUT, that was not the exciting part.  The exciting part came in the form of a vintage kimono.

Yes, a kimono.

After hearing The Glamourai wax poetic about her collection, I’ve been feeling inclined to try one on.  The fact that I just organically  ran into a grey one this afternoon is actually blowing my mind a bit.  Funny how stuff like that happens, eh?  Methinks I’ll give it a whirl this week.

Musings…

The concepts of fate and destiny are lost on me.  I find that they are nice to think about or blame when things don’t go the way we want them to, but for me, they just aren’t practical.  I’d rather take everything as it comes, treating life as a journey on a path that changes as I change with no destination predetermined.  Que sera sera.

That said, I have been going SUPERHARD in The Lab.  I don’t know what has come over me, but all I want to do is create…things.  Things that I like, things that you all like, and everything in between.  As you can imagine, my hobby is taking up more and more of my mental space…and more and more out of my wallet…

No worries.  Right now, it doesn’t really matter.  I’m more than happy to be focusing my energy on something that makes me as content as this does.  I’m not asking any questions or looking for any answers as to why this is my focus du jour; I’m just letting it be.

AE oxford, Earnest Sewn jeans, Promiscuous shoes, vintage clutch & self-designed necklace

So yeah, I got all philosophical to tell you that I’m expanding the fare in my lil’ ol’ shop starting with the necklace I have on here.  As soon as I get some proper photos taken, it’ll be listed.   =D

6/10/09 UPDATE: Serpentine is now available in the store.  =)

Pantsless

Sometimes, you just have to go without…

Vintage blazer from mom, thrifted top, AA mesh dress & leggings, Colonial Madness boots

Chained Up vest as necklace and snakelet (back in stock soon!)

Don’t ask why I thought a mesh dress would serve as an adequate coverup for my backside in leggings…just roll with it.

I finally made myself clean out the closet tonight.  So far, I’ve found stuff I thought I gave away, a LOT of potential pet projects, and 2 pairs of jeans that are in dire need of repair (only because I love them so much).  The to-go pile is steady growing and I’m still undecided on what to do with it.  Hmmmmm.

A lovely man named Michael wanted me to tell you all that if you go to  www.whoogaboots.co.uk and use the code INSTANTVIN, you get $30 toward a purchase.  Eh?  Eh?

=D

Thanks, Michael!!

<3 y’all!

Fringe with Benefits

I never really got into the fringe thing…until last night.  After seeing the DIY the BleachBlack girls did with fringe and a zipper, I decided that the least commital thing I could do fringe-wise was a necklace.  I thought about going the zipper route, but given my love for (and excess supply of) chains, that seemed like a better starting point.

Then I ran across this on Zana’s blog:

It pretty much seemed like fate given all the skeins of yarn I have at the ready.  I love it when a plan comes together.

Last night, while eating tacos al carbon and watching the Twilight Zone (and not cleaning my closet), I did this:

1 – wrapped the remainder of a skein of black yarn around my arm a bunch of times, folded it in half, cut the middle, folded in half again, and cut the middle.  Each piece was around 6″.

2 – starting at one end, I folded each piece of yarn in half, stuck the loop through the link and pulled the free strands through the loop to secure it (NO idea what that process is called, but it’s a lot easier with a latch or crochet hook).  On the very first link, I did this until the entire link was covered.  On the next (really the third) link, I only did enough to cover the outside portion of the link that fell in between the connecting links.

(I have a penchant for confusing people, so if that didn’t make sense, I don’t blame you)

3 – rinse and repeat until every other link is covered.  After that, attach a couple of jump rings and a lobster clasp (or your closure of choice…you could probably just tie a couple of yarn strands together…), and you’re pretty much done.  After trying it on, you may need to fill in some portions in the back where it looks sparse.  I covered the outside of three uncovered links to fill it all in.

Easy-peasy and now I have non-committal fringe.  Very nice.
