Umm…Yeah…

Today was uneventful for the most part.  The only real thing I got accomplished was narrowing down the places I’d like to go on Halloween night.  If you aren’t on the metromix email list, you should consider adding yourself to it.  They provide a wealth on information on things to do and places to go in Los Angeles (and several other cities, it seems).

Shirt: Thrifted

Tank & Shoes: F21

Skirt: American Apparel

Bag: gift from my awesome housemate

I’m going to a comedy show tonight.  Nothing like a mid-week evening outing to make it thatmuch harder for me to get up in the morning.

Expressionist

They tell me that I make crazy faces.  I usually don’t know how I’m looking at people when I am, but I DO know that I absolutely cannot hide what I’m thinking or feeling – my facial reaction is the most honest one.  Like this one:

I wish I could remember what was on my mind when I was taking the rest of these pictures today.

[New] Boots

Now you and I both know that it is very unlikely that I come from a trip to Goodwill with only one thing in tow.  This weekend’s hunt for the pink blazer made that very clear.  These perfectly worn brown moto boots were all of $6.  That is all.  Thank you.

Ok, that isn’t really all, but I’m still pretty blown away about this come-up.  I wasn’t really sure what to do with them outsite of throwing on some jeans and a wife beater, but it’s Monday and I decided  to try…something.  I hope it worked.

This is Duckey.  You may remember her from such posts as the one before this one.  I’d call her my right arm, but then she might sock me in it for being “soft.”  I’d agree with her.  And then I’d steal the rest of her Canada Dry ginger ale.  These may sound like random occurences, but most of them happened today…sort of.

Exhibit A

Does anyone have a remedy for too much television?  I feel like this thing is on for 40% of my day and it makes me uncomfortable.  Any thoughts?

Goodwill (and Ozzie Dots) Halloween!

Am I the only one out there that loves this commercial?  I’ve been singing it all weekend much to the chagrin of dudeguy.  He’ll get over it and will probably start singing it himself.  Comedy.

This is actually the first Halloween that I’ve gone to Goodwill to find things.  Shocking?  I know.  If you’re still  looking for costumes or costume supplements, find your nearest location and GO!  Anyone hurting from the recession or who doesn’t want to wear a stock sexed-up cartoon character/sports figure/public servant, should at least browse one for 20 minutes.  You will find something you can work with.

In my favorite GW on Hollywood Blvd and without much effort, I managed to find the ever elusive hot pink blazer.  Sure it’s not an exact replica, but it’ll do:

For the balance of my costume, I walked down the street to Ozzie Dots.  If you’re in L.A. and have never been here, you REALLY need to go.  The prices are extremely competitive and they have tons of costumes organized by genre and decade.  I came away with a blue wig and some striped tights.

Ozzie Dots

4637 Hollywood Blvd

(right next to my favorite bookstore/gallery/novelty shop – La Luz de Jesus)

All in all, I spent about $25 for my entire costume.  This pales in comparison to the Vanity fiasco of 2007 where I spent about $140, everyone thought I was Tina Turner instead of an obscure 80′s pop singer turned evangelist, and I wasn’t able to wear anything again.

Something tells me that blazer is going to be seen well past Halloween night.  Maybe even before.  Shoulder pads and all.

We’ve got about a week left and I can’t wait to see/hear about everyone’s costumes!  Party plans anyone?

I'm In My Favorite Jeans…

Since many of you may not get the song reference right away (or at all – LOL), I’m posting the video first.  Dave Hollister, formerly of Blackstreet, is one of my favorite male artists.  His subject matter and voice combined make for some really good music.

This is truly a day for celebration.  I’ve waited months and months with bated breath for the day when my legs slimmed down enough for me to fit my favorite pair of jeans again.  Today was that day.  Oh Avas!  How I’ve missed you!!  I really don’t know how this became possible since I haven’t lost any weight, but I am definitely not arguing.

Ahh yes…the red shoes.  After geri, with her sweet self, took my advice and decided to keep these very amazing and fabulously trannylicious shoes, I had to wear them myself.  As expected, everyone at work immediately noticed them.  Friday has now been dubbed “Alicia’s Inappropriate Shoe Day.”

The weekend is finally here and I actually have something to do planned (besides thrifting myself a Halloween costume).  I scored a couple of tickets to see “W” – should be interesting.  I’ll let you guys know how it went.  If you end up seeing it yourself, I’d love to compare notes.  And while we’re on the subject, is anyone else out there completely OVER this presidential race? I’m so tired of each new story that develops, the fanatics, the pundits, the politicians, and those damn maps.  I can’t wait until November 5th just so I don’t have to watch this shit every day.

Wife Beater and Jeans…

I was late and tired as hell this morning, so I go to my old standbys: the beater and the jeans.  If, at any point in my life, I were to have a signature look, it would probably be this.  I’m glad I got these little tasseled joints – I think they do jeans right.

Wow.  Halloween is next week.  I would be in slight stress mode over my costume, but thanks to the lovely Taghrid, I have my idea…which was really her idea back in 2007.  If you’ve never heard of Fafi (shame!  She’s had MAC and Le Sport Sac collaborations), I suggest you go to her site.  She does awesome graff-art and is honestly, one of my favorite artists.  I’m going for this look here:

Back to today, most of which was spent inside looking at a computer screen…like now.  LOL.  For the one hour I had away, I was walking up and down Wilshire in 94-degree heat.  IT’S OCTOBER.  Ugh.  I really hope it cools off sometime before this year is over.

What do you guys have going on for Halloween? Any plans?  Costume ideas?  I want to know.  Pony up!  I think I’m going to hang out in Trannyland (West Hollywood) with all of the interesting people.  Should be a good time.

Tank: Target

Jeans & Bag: Forever 21

Shoes: Urban Outfitters

I’ll leave you with ‘Tasia’s performance of “Hood Boy.”  She’s been looking a little…ummm…rough around the edges lately.  I hope she comes back with something great soon, because this was my jam for about three days and I need something new to do the car seat cabbage patch to soon.

VIVA LA BOONDOCKS!!

He was actually taller than I thought he was going to be.  I’m still in love (in my mind).  Oh, and he smells terriffic.

Nothing beats an intelligent, subversive man with a killer smile, nice cologne, and the rights to a television show that I watch religiously.  The new season starts in Fall of 2009.

Oh, the walls of Taper Hall of Humanities.  I don’t miss this shit at.all.  LOL.  So glad I don’t have to take notes with 300 other people in a lecture hall.

Got my shoes!  I really like them.  They aren’t as high as I’m used to, but the comfort and cuteness factor are overshadowing it big time.

Shirt: from etsy.com

Jeans: Refuge

Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Between love and madness…lies obsession.  I’m not REALLY obsessed.  I just really really like that man.  Very stoked I got to meet him in the flesh.  Finally!

I See You Jockin My Fresh…

I’ll just come right out and say it…

I totally swagger-jacked Wendy for this outfit.  And I loved every minute of it.

I love this little vintage frock that’s too short in the lining to be worn as such.  I think I need a slip.  Or maybe a really short skirt to wear underneath it.  Either way, I’ll be wearing leggings underneath until I figure it out.

I’m off to see Aaron McGruder tonight.  If you don’t know about him, take two minutes, google “The Boondocks” and behold his genius.  I’ve had an unhealthy crush on that man for years and now I get to see him in the flesh.  I already know he will be shorter than me and that will make me sad.

I almost don’t want to go.

Side note: I figured since I’ve mentioned them so much, I may as well take some pictures with the legion of cats that share a living space with me.  It’s not as bad as it sounds, and I swear they don’t smell.

Double Duty

I really like layering dresses.  Under a skirt (see last post), or shirt (a la today), I think I’m going to get more mileage out of them this way than I would with them on their own in summer.  Yay for a multitasking piece of clothing!

Shirt: got it at Metropark (the old yob)

Dress: Forever 21

Shoes: Emporio Armani

Purple Stuff…

Sorry for the barrage of posts on a Monday…I was sick this weekend, so I’m making up for it all.  LOL.

Today, my DIY purple skirt over that grey F21 dress I said I wanted.  I could have worn it solo, but I had a meeting today (that was cancelled) and I didn’t want to send any strange messages.

I’m thinking this skirt has a lil’ too much volume for me.  Either that, or I’m hankering for a pencil skirt.  We’ll see how I feel after I fire up my sewing machine and work some magic crank out something wearable.

Jacket, dress, shoes – F21

Skirt – Handmade

Tights – Target

Thank you guys again for all of your feedback re: the red shoes.  That whole episode really taught me a lot about myself and my shopaholism.  It wasn’t always like this.  I used to be extremely frugal/tightwadded/spendthrifty.  But then my life turned upside-down for a slew of reasons and I medicated with clothes.  I read on MSN that antidepressants are supposed to help compulsive shoppers.

Anyone have any Prozac?  Zoloft? Umm…what else is out there?

I’m really not a fan of meds, so I’m hoping this shopping freeze* works out.

*Note: The freeze does not include the $1 sale.  That would be unfair.

UPDATE: Following the video-with-the-post theme, I had to retroactively post this.  Man…this takes me back.
